HM suspension for old Vitaras

Hello guys,,

I have an old Vitara 5d , Spanish made, JLX, Exclusive, 1600, 16V , mod 2001
The car is a very normal Vitara without any mods.

I want to do a medium lift at the range of 4-5cm

I found an Italian company that has some nice stuff for Vitaras , the HM4X4 (hm4x4.com)
The company offers (among others) springs and shocks of various calibrations at 5cm lift

The springs and shocks , i think, are been offered in 2 -3 types (soft-standrard-harder)
Since these products are rarely been bought in Greece and i dont know somebody to info me about
the performance of these springs and shocks i want your help here
Are they hard ? soft ? or what ?
How can we compare them to the OME, Factory, MAD springs ?
Maybe we have to seperate and compare only springs between them ? like HM-OME-Suzuki-MAD ?
I have drived a similar like mine Vitara with MAD springs and Kayaba shocks (black front, silver rear)
I found it a bit stiff for my taste,, not very much, but i would prefer it somewhat softer.

Anyway, i wait for your feedback on this and your advices

Thank you in advance

Ciao tutti

Thank you for the info Lore85,,

I was interesting about the HM suspension , cause i can find it locally here in Greece and its much better and easier
How was the XT kit ? i mean the feeling ,,is it a hard-stiff suspension or what ?

The feeling is amazing!
Is perfect for any kind of floor mud and rock is a soft-stiff but not too much!
I'm crazy about it..
And another important thing for me is that is full made in Italy and not in Cina like all the others kit, and with eternal regenerative oil suspensions...

hi tsakas,

sorry, but you simply came to the wrong place. this forum is hardly active, very few people do here serious off-road and modifications, even less speak english, just look at the dates of the posts, they are all 1,2,3 years old or more...

sorry if you are dissapointed. will not be easy to find somene here that has the answer you are seeking.

but even outside of italy the vitara forums are quite slow, try asking in difflock and suzuki uk forums...

if yu want my tips for a 40mm setup, i will be glado to give them to you, just PM me

Hello my friend turboguzzi,,

Since i can not find (and verify) any of my ideas , I have done a supension lift already
MAD springs with KYB shocks . Extra spring spacers in rear and below the rear shocks > shock repositioners
I have fitted in front an iron made diff (instead my alum diff) and fitted inside with 8/41 ratios (instead of my 8/39 diffs)
Also, got green half-shafts (stronger than my spanish suzuki's)

For the test i fitted Malatesta Kobra NT in 205/80/16 in iron rims (very heavy combination indeed)
The tires were about 74cm tall
I did not have any particular problems using them except some trimming of the front bumper and the much noise while on road

indeed, spanish cars had slightly weaker shafts and components, so it's good that you changed shafts.

the iron diff is needed when you do more extreme stuff and have a front locker. but of course. always nice to have!

I have an iron diff waitng to be mounted after i put inside an air locker.

not sure why you had 8/39.... 8/41 should be stock.....

my only recomendation is whenever possible to fit longer springs instead of spacers.... spacers keep the spring short = harder spring rates & more bumpy ride. if you put longer springs to ahcieve the lift you need, they are much more progressvie and supple.... for next time :)

The 8/39 diffs were standard in 5doors Spanish Vitaras.
I changed half-shafts in front , but i have to change the driving shaft from transfer to front diff as well
It has smaller (dont know the exact term, sorry) cross joints 24mm instead of 25 of GV , so in the close future, i ll change the front driving shaft as well
The coil spacers were used only in rear to trim and balance the total height and appearance of the vehicle, i know what you said about the spacers and springs,, you are right , but some times we have to do other solutions
